GROWING YOUR SOCIAL CAPITAL

  1. One person must be a domain expert in your industry: This person is not an expert in school construction but they are an expert in hospital construction. Hospital have lockdowns when needed and they gave doors that automatically lock everywhere. This would be similar to the door lock for schools. They thought it was a good idea and it would be very helpful. He also knows the prices and how long it would take to do this which would be helpful for the business.
  1. One person must be an expert on your market: I could not find someone specific for this position so I asked an ex-coworker about marketing this. She agreed like I said in my last blog post, that creating a website and having awareness in trade shows would have customers be interested.
  1. One person must be an important supplier to your industry: This person could have been a teacher, parent, or student. I decided to ask someone who graduated two years before the shooting in Parkland. They thought this would be a good idea to help other school and not have their school taken away. Although she had great memories in high school, every time she tells other where she went to school. Their first though is the tragic shooting.
Networking is very important in Marketing so I feel like I was in my element being able to network with other people about this product. I really had to think about who I would interview for this part.

  1. Cristina, I completely understand your struggle to find people knowledgeable and experienced within your field. When the topic is something super focused and specific, it can be hard to talk to people that are experts on the subject. Finding someone who has experience with hospital security was a good audible at the line though. Keep up the great work, Cristina!

  2. Hey Cristina! It is great that you found a domain expert, market expert, and supply expert in order to complete the assignment. I had to make a few calls to people I had never talked to and it was pretty uncomfortable. But, the benefit of making those connections outweighs the consequences of the awkwardness and uncomfortably talking to strangers. Great post!

It is good that you thrived when networking because for marketing that will definitely serve you well. I think this was a good assignment for you because you got to use your skills.
